"Committed" by Elizabeth Gilbert

I know. I should rename my media column, "You Gotta Hear This;" I've been linking you to so many radio stories lately, right? It's just I've been spending a lot of time in the car in the past week or so. Driving to small towns finding bakeries, working on stories, what have you. And, of course, when you're in the car you listen to the radio. And since you readers are always on my mind, when I hear something I think might interest you I make a note to myself to pass it along.

Soooo....remember the book Eat, Pray, Love? A couple of you mentioned it in the food related book giveaway contest. Elizabeth Gilbert has a new book out on a subject of interest to many of us: marriage. I heard her interviewed the other day. And wow, is she articulate. You can listen to the interview or read a summary of it here.

After Gilbert marries for the second time, she decides to interview wives all over the world. She goes into into thinking one thing but comes out of it with a whole new respect for the institution.

Check it out. Also, check out her picture. I was pleased to note that she, too has bags under her eyes. Is that awful?

"Move a Little, Lose A Lot"

That's the title of a book, now out in paperback, written by a doctor from the Mayo Clinic. I heard him interviewed on public radio as I was still recovering from my grueling first working after a two week break for Christmas. Great timing.

The doctor, James Levine... adorable with his very British accent...was actually very encouraging. My favorite part of the interview was when a woman called and said she considered herself very fit, although by body mass standards would probably be considered a bit overweight. She said, hey, "I like my curves." And the doctor was, like, right on; that's okay. I loved that. If you want to hear the interview click here.
